Registered Nurse - NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)

Location: Webster, Texas
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36


Unit Information

  • Unit: Neonatal ICU (42 beds)
  • Staff per shift:
    • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 10-15 RNs, 1 Patient Care Technician (PCT)
    • Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 10-15 RNs, 1 PCT
  • Patient Ratios:
    • Level 3 acuity: 1 nurse per 1-3 patients (depending on acuity)
    • Level 2 acuity: 1 nurse per 3-4 patients
  • Equipment: Isolettes, OMNI beds, phototherapy, computers
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR): Meditech and CPN
  • Floating Area: Newborn nursery
  • Dress Code: Royal blue scrubs
  • Schedule: Minimum 4 weekend shifts per schedule, occasional on-call

Required Certifications and Licenses

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience within the last year

Education

  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Skills and Procedures

  • Must have: Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) skills
  • Preferred: STABLE certification and experience with central lines such as UAC, UVC, Broviacs, PICC lines
  • Typical procedures: IV starts, PICC insertions (for trained clinicians)
