Registered Nurse - Cardio-Pulmonary Stepdown

Job Summary
Provide specialized nursing care on a 20-bed medical stepdown unit focused on patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI), cardiac arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure (CHF), and other low-risk cardiac/chest pain diagnoses. Care also includes long-term ventilator-dependent patients and general medical patients requiring cardiac monitoring.
Unit Description
- Cardiopulmonary Stepdown unit specializing in cardiac and pulmonary care.
- Patient population includes cardiology, renal, endocrinology, general medicine, pulmonology, gastroenterology, and oncology.
- Staff receive specialized training in non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (Bi-PAP, C-PAP, A-PAP).
- Responsibilities include infusion therapy, transfusions, injections, and central line care.
- Patient care assistants support with activities of daily living (ADLs), point-of-care glucose testing, and 12 Lead EKGs.
- The unit is a dedicated stroke unit; all RNs are NIH stroke scale certified.
Contract Length
- 8 weeks
Shift Details
- 12-hour shifts
- Nights and every other weekend
- 36 hours per week
Required Qualifications
Education
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required
Licensure & Certifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1 year of recent Cardiac Stepdown experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide age- and culturally-specific patient care and education
- Effective communication skills with peers and maintenance of confidentiality
- Commitment to continuing professional growth and competence
- Ability to accept and implement change and work in a culturally diverse environment
- Stepdown nursing experience
