Registered Nurse - PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide individualized nursing care in peri-anesthesia nursing and pharmacology for geriatric, adult, and adolescent patients from admission through discharge.
- Apply nursing process with knowledge of peri-anesthesia standards of care, airway management, nursing assessment parameters, and medication pharmacology (doses, purpose, interactions, side effects, reactions).
- Extensive cardiac/cath lab holding room experience required.
Shift Details
- 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (40 hours/week).
- Shift start times: 9:00 AM or 11:00 AM.
- No weekend shifts.
- Float to other campuses as needed and census permits.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California.
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum 2 years of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience, with PACU experience within the last year.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.
- Extensive cardiac/cath lab holding room experience, including cardiac cath lab experience.
- ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check within 6 months of start, including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and updated annually.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per CA law).
- Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps; employment verification required for up to 7 years.
- References: 2 professional references required within 3 years for clinical acute care candidates.
Certifications and Competencies
- State license primary source verification within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- EKG competency exam and pass/fail testing required onsite after start.
- Additional certifications may be verified as applicable (e.g., CCRN, TNCC) but not specifically required for this role.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (with accommodations for religious exemptions or failed tests).
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years).
- Negative TB test (PPD or IGRA) or chest x-ray as applicable, renewed annually.
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titers or vaccination series with boosters as needed.
- Hepatitis B: Series or signed declination; must complete series if started.
- Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed.
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30) or signed declination.
- Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start.
Facility Specific Requirements
- Review and sign facility policies and codes of conduct prior to start.
- TB screening questionnaire signed by candidate and healthcare provider within 90 days of start, renewed annually.
- Completion of vendor training and regulatory orientation prior to start.
- Photo for badge (per diem only).
- Religious exemption forms required for facial hair (PAPR) or vaccine exemptions, subject to approval.
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- Floating to other campuses may be required based on census.
- No weekend shifts.
