Unit Information

• Unit: Maternal Infant Unit
• Number of Beds: 24
• Number of Staff: 71
• Staff Types (Day Shift): Labor nurse, nursery nurse, OB tech, secretary, leadership, educator
• Staff Types (Night Shift): Labor nurse, nursery nurse, OB tech, secretary
• Patient Ratios:

  • Labor: 1:1 (most of the time)
  • Post-partum: 5-6:1
  • Nursery: 5-6:1
• Equipment: GE fetal monitors
• EMR System: Meditech, CPN

Typical Procedures

• Vaginal deliveries
• C-sections
• Care of antepartum patients
• Newborn and post-partum care

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • AWHONN Fetal Monitoring Certification

Work Schedule & Dress Code

• Every third weekend required
• 12 hours of on-call per 4-week schedule
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs; pink badges for infant security
