Registered Nurse - Med Surg
Location: Wichita, Kansas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Information
- Unit: Med/Surg with focus on Oncology and General Surgery
- Number of Beds: 24
- Staff: 19 total, including 6 new nurses onboarding this month
- Shift Staffing:
- Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 5 nurses, 1 Admin Care tech
- Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 5 nurses (when full)
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:5 (not guaranteed)
- EMR System: Meditech
- Unit Type: Remote telemetry unit with oncology patients
- Magnet facility with strong emphasis on nurse input and quality care
- Use of iPhone nursing system for immediate communication among care team
Job Description
- Provide standard medical-surgical nursing care
- Administer chemotherapy (only by chemo-certified nurses)
- Vital signs performed every 8 hours; for remote telemetry patients, every 4 hours
- Work within a positive, team-oriented environment with strong charge nurse support
- Unit is recognized for high-quality care and strong teamwork, often praised by float pool staff
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Kansas
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg experience within the last year
- Current BLS certification
- De-escalation skills in a healthcare setting
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
