Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg Telemetry
Location
- Farmington, New Mexico
Employment Type
- Travel contract
- Contract length: 13 weeks
Unit & Facility Overview
- Surgical Inpatient Unit (3rd floor)
- Level III Trauma Center (frequently cares for Level I and II trauma cases)
- 24 beds
- Patient population: Adults aged 18 to 100+
- Patient ratio: Maximum 1:6 with admissions and discharges throughout the shift
- Equipment includes IV pumps and vital signs monitors
- Electronic Health Record system: Cerner
- Shift: Days
- Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
- Weekend requirement: At least 3 shifts per 4-week schedule
- No call requirements
- Float opportunities to Medical, Nephrology, Inpatient Rehab, Cardiology (lower acuity patients), Med/Surg, and Pediatrics (adult patients only)
Specialty Focus
- Orthopedic and Neurosurgery post-operative care
- Medical and Nephrology patient care as needed
Common Patient Diagnoses and Treatments
- Post-operative care for ortho/neurosurgical/abdominal surgeries
- Management of NG tubes, chest tubes, Foley catheters, TURPs
- Respiratory issues
- Diabetic patient care
- Sepsis
- Alcohol withdrawal
- Rib fractures
- Altered mental status
- Pain management
- Mixture of medical and surgical patients
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Mexico
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification
- Experience in charge nurse roles
- Experience with post-operative patient care, including management of chest tubes
- Experience caring for patients with sepsis and alcohol withdrawal
