Description
Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Santa Monica, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- Work in a unit with 4 antepartum rooms, 9 labor/high-risk rooms, and 3 triage rooms.
- No on-call required.
- May float to postpartum unit if needed; postpartum couplet care (newborn and maternal) is a bonus skill.
- Responsibilities include fetal heart monitoring, high-risk pregnancy monitoring, C-sections, and vaginal deliveries.
- Weekend work required every other weekend.
- Floating between labor/delivery and postpartum units is expected.
- Block scheduling may be accommodated at manager’s discretion.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
- Minimum of 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Certification in AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring, NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), or equivalent EFM certification.
- American Heart Association certifications in ACLS and BLS.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Facility & Work Environment
- Acute care hospital with 266 staffed beds, located near the beach.
- Charting system: Epic.
- Scrub colors: Navy blue for RNs; specific scrubs provided for L&D/OR/Cath Lab.
- Parking available with associated costs.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID and Social Security card required.
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- Education verification required for nursing degree; international education requires diploma/transcript.
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years (declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
- COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to masking policies
- Respirator clearance required annually for travel nurses.
- Fit mask testing required onsite or valid record within 1 year.
Additional Requirements
- Minimum of 2 professional references covering at least 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years.
- Employment application covering at least the last 5 years of employment with month/year format for dates.
- Skills checklist for applicable units, updated annually.
- Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via assigned learning management system.
- Float policy acknowledgment required (may be asked to float to other nearby facilities).
Notes
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period.
- Local radius for assignment is 50 miles.
- On-call is not required for this position.
- Candidates must be able to start ASAP.
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with solid clinical skills in high-risk obstetrics and fetal monitoring, who are comfortable working night shifts and floating between related units.
