Description

Registered Nurse (LDRP)

Location: Williston, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 48


Unit Overview

  • Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) unit with 15 beds total (7 L&D, 8 Postpartum)
  • 1 OR suite on the unit for C-sections
  • Approximately 58 births per month
  • Patient population mainly obstetric/neonates, including hypertension and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM)
  • Typically avoid delivering babies less than 36 weeks gestation
  • Follow AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • 1:1 for pitocin, magnesium, or insulin drips
    • 1:3 couplet care

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license
  • BLS certification required
  • Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification required
  • Preferred certifications: ACLS, NRP, STABLE
  • Ability to read and interpret fetal heart rate strips independently
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to follow quality metrics
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Experience titrating drips such as pitocin, insulin, and magnesium
  • Ability and willingness to float to Medsurg and ER units as needed

Clinical and Operational Details

  • RNs titrate drips and read their own fetal monitoring strips
  • Telemetry monitors used: Philips
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) system: Traceview/PIP
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system: Meditech
  • Respiratory therapy equipment present (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow), but RNs are not required to operate beyond troubleshooting
  • No in-house OB/Neonatologist or anesthesia 24/7 coverage
  • Charge nurse present on each shift and takes patient assignments
  • Nurse aides (CNAs) assist with vitals, transfers, ambulation, and desk coverage due to locked unit status

Scheduling and Orientation

  • Shifts: 06:45–19:15 and 18:45–07:15
  • Block scheduling only; no self-scheduling
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend
  • Holiday requirement: every other holiday
  • Call or standby requirements vary depending on staffing
  • Unit-specific orientation: 3 shifts

Additional Information

  • Floating required within the hospital based on need, primarily to Medsurg and ER; permanent staff usually float first
  • Scrub color: maroon surgical scrubs provided on unit
  • Successful nurses are adaptive to change, strong critical thinkers, and effective communicators
  • Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles and may not have worked full time, part time, or PRN for any related health system facility in the past 12 months
  • Return to office (RTO) required upfront; no additional RTO approvals after submission
