Description
Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Fullerton, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in Labor and Delivery unit with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio.
- Must have expert experience performing sterile vaginal exams independently without supervision.
- AWHONN certification is mandatory (hard stop).
- Sterile vaginal exams and triage experience are hard stop requirements; candidates without these should not be screened or passed.
- EPIC electronic health record experience is required.
- Scheduling preferences may be considered but are not guaranteed.
- Must be open to working weekends, likely exceeding every other weekend to meet unit needs.
- Floating between Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby units is required.
- Block scheduling accommodations are at manager discretion.
- Pending licenses are not accepted.
- Local radius for assignment is 50 miles.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in California.
- Minimum 1.5 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with recent experience within the last year.
- Certifications:
- AWHONN Advanced
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Work Environment
- Acute Care Hospital setting with approximately 320 staffed beds.
- Charting system: Meditech.
- Free parking available.
- Scrub color for RNs: Royal Blue; L&D/OR scrubs provided.
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work with or without accommodation.
- Fit mask test required annually (on-site completion possible).
- Immunizations and screenings required:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years (declination accepted).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required).
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives.
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives.
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted).
- COVID-19 vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated must follow infection prevention protocols.
- 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant tests acceptable).
Background and Compliance
- Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- Education verification required for nursing degree.
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years required.
- Minimum of 2 professional references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting.
- Various state-specific background and registry checks as applicable.
Additional Notes
- On-call is not required.
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period.
- Return to office (RTO) restrictions must be included at time of submission.
- Candidates must acknowledge float policy; may be required to float to other nearby facilities.
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs who meet the certification and licensure requirements, have strong EPIC skills, and are comfortable working night shifts with weekend coverage and floating responsibilities.
