Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location: Frederick, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide obstetric care for patients 20+ weeks pregnant through 6 weeks postpartum.
  • Work in a unit with 14 L&D rooms, OB Triage, OB ORs, and OB PACU.
  • Facility features 5 new rooms with state-of-the-art equipment and family-centered care design.
  • Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM).
  • Rotating weekends and holidays required; no call and no block scheduling.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Maryland.
  • Minimum 3 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Current certifications:
    • ACLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Prior travel nursing experience required.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service).
  • Proof of E-Verify or attestation.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SS trace, sex offender registry, and education verification.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated with renewals.
  • Education verification (high school diploma, GED, or college degree; certificates not accepted).
  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands (initial and annually).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually.
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant/rapid accepted).
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap (no declination allowed)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: series or positive titer, no declinations accepted
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if low titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30).
  • Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR) required prior to start.

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Pass/Fail testing including:
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (part of facility’s Net Learning Modules for L&D).
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam.
  • Must complete facility-specific Net Learning Modules (4-5 hours) and pass exams with at least 80%. Multiple attempts allowed except for dysrhythmia exam (2 attempts max).
  • Orientation to facility policies including attendance and punctuality expectations must be reviewed and signed prior to start.

References & Evaluations

  • Proof of 2 clinical references within the last 12 months required.
  • Performance evaluations required if previously worked with the facility for over 1 year.
  • Internal evaluations required if employed over 2 years.

Additional Notes

  • No call required.
  • Photo for badge must be submitted in JPEG format; no nose rings allowed in photo.
  • Candidate will not be reimbursed for time spent completing required modules.
  • Extensions of contract beyond 1 year require updated certifications as noted.
