Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location: Fullerton, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Start Date: ASAP
- First-time travel nurses accepted
- Must be open to working weekends (every other weekend required, may exceed to meet unit needs)
- May be required to float to mother-baby unit
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 1.5 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Expert experience performing sterile vaginal exams independently without supervision
- Required Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN certification
- AWHONN Advanced certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to float to mother-baby unit as needed
- Scheduling preferences may be considered but are not guaranteed
- Pending licenses are not accepted
- Local radius for assignment is 50 miles
- Facility provides free parking
- Facility uses Meditech for charting
Certifications & Competencies
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification required (AWHONN or NCC-EFM accepted) or completion of Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring Assessment exam in Relias
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules required via LMS (Workramp)
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), IV certification, Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB), NIH Stroke Certification as applicable (verify per clinical track)
Background and Compliance
- Comprehensive background checks including SSN trace, death master index, nationwide and county checks, education verification, and more
- State-specific searches and attestations as applicable
- Photo for badge required (passport style with neutral background)
- Annual completion of Workramp modules for regulatory and specialty requirements
- Float policy acknowledgment required
Work Environment
- Acute Care Hospital with 320 staffed beds
- Scrub color coding by role (RN: Royal Blue; L&D/OR: provided)
- Night shift with 12-hour shifts, 3 shifts per week
- Likely weekend work exceeding every other weekend to meet unit needs
Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
- On-call is not required
- Guaranteed hours: facility may call off once per two-week pay period
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs who are comfortable working independently in a fast-paced acute care setting, have strong EPIC skills, and hold required certifications including AWHONN. The role requires flexibility with weekend shifts and floating to mother-baby units.
