Registered Nurse (ER RN) - Omaha, Nebraska
Job Details
- Specialty: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights
- Hours per Day: 12
- Hours per Week: 36
- Work Environment: Level I Trauma Center, Pediatric Certified by State, Comprehensive Stroke Center
- Unit Details:
- 20 beds total (5 Trauma, 10 Observation, hallway beds)
- Fast Track area with 6 beds
- Separate triage area with 3 beds
- Security staffed in ER 24/7
- Patient Types: Trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, strokes (including TPA administration)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- 1:4 in zones
- 1:6 in Fast Track
- 1:5 in Observation
- 1:1 in ICU/Trauma
- Support Staff:
- Charge nurse on each shift
- Nurse aides/EMT/Paramedics/Patient sitters (ratios: 1:10 in Observation, 1:20 in main ED)
- Telemetry/Monitor techs present; RNs must read and interpret cardiac strips
- Scheduling:
- Shifts: 7:00am-7:00pm, 9:00am-9:00pm, 11:00am-11:00pm, 3:00pm-3:00am, 7:00pm-7:00am
- Weekend and holiday requirements vary based on department needs
- Floating required at least once a week to Observation unit and a freestanding ER
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) preferred but not required
Required Qualifications
- Recent Level 1 or Level 2 trauma experience is required
- Valid driver's license required at time of submission (used to verify candidate is within 50-mile radius)
- Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book exam during orientation (exam covers skills learned)
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
- Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system within a 50-mile radius
Orientation and Onboarding
- One week of onboarding
- Two shifts at one hospital location
- One shift at another hospital location
Additional Notes
- Fast-paced, high acuity environment
- Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days or less from contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
