Registered Nurse (ER)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 36
Job Overview
- Work in a Level I Trauma Center Emergency Room with pediatric certification and a comprehensive stroke center designation.
- Fast-paced, high acuity environment.
- Patient types include trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, strokes (TPA administration).
- Unit includes 20 beds (5 trauma, 10 observation, hallway beds), 6 Fast Track beds, and 3 triage beds.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by area:
- 1:4 in zones
- 1:6 in Fast Track
- 1:5 in Observation
- 1:1 in ICU/Trauma
- Support staff includes charge nurses, nurse aides/EMTs/paramedics/patient sitters with ratios of 1:10 in observation and 1:20 in main ED.
- Telemetry/Monitor techs present; RNs must read and interpret cardiac strips.
- ED staffed with physicians and mid-level providers.
- Floating required at least once a week to observation unit and a freestanding ER.
- Orientation includes 1 week onboarding plus 3 additional shifts at other facilities.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) preferred but not required
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Recent Level 1 or Level 2 trauma experience required.
- Must pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book).
- Valid driver’s license required at time of application.
- Must comply with fingernail policy: artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas.
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN within 50 miles at any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system.
- Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed.
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Shifts available: 7am-7pm, 9am-9pm, 11am-11pm, 3pm-3am, 7pm-7am (night shift for this role).
- Weekend and holiday work required based on department needs.
- Security is in-house 24/7 within the ER.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be able to work in a trauma-certified, pediatric-capable ER with comprehensive stroke care.
- Must be able to float to other units as needed.
- High acuity and fast-paced environment requiring strong clinical skills and trauma experience.
