Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse
Location: Santa Rosa, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 3 patients
- Orientation: 36 hours
- Scheduling: 4x12 shifts allowed upon request
- Floating: Required to float between like units
- Locals: Not accepted
- Pending License: Not accepted
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period
- Charting System: Epic
- Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital with 277 staffed beds
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Postpartum nursing experience
- ACLS certification
- AWHONN Intermediate certification
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation
- Fit Mask Test: Required for travel nurses; must be updated annually
- Immunizations & Testing:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer, declination accepted
- Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series or signed declination
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer, declination accepted
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season or signed declination
- COVID-19 vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to masking policies
- Drug Screen: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start; instant tests acceptable
- Respiratory Safety Clearance: Required annually for travel nurses; virtual questionnaire reviewed by healthcare professional
Background & Compliance
- Background Check: Within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must include SSN trace, death master index, nationwide and county checks, sex offender registry, education verification, and motor vehicle record if applicable
- Education Verification: Required for nursing degree; international education requires diploma/transcript or CES report
- NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
- State-Specific Searches: Required as applicable (e.g., Washington State Patrol Search)
- References & Work History: Must align with specialty; exceptions require work history verification
Orientation & Training
- Competency Exams: Required as applicable by specialty
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): Required for all Labor & Delivery RNs; can be met by AWHONN or NCC certification or Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring Assessment exam
- Annual Regulatory Modules: Required annually via LMS platform, including core, specialty, and facility-specific training
- Epic Training: Completion of Epic modules required within a week of orientation

- Scrub Colors: Royal blue or navy blue for RNs; pediatric RNs wear pediatric-friendly tops with royal/navy bottoms
- Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with neutral background required
- Floating Policy: Acknowledgement required; may float to other nearby facilities
- Locals and Pending Licenses: Not accepted for this position
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs who meet the certification and licensing requirements and are comfortable working night shifts with a 1:3 patient ratio in an acute care hospital setting.
