Registered Nurse - PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
Location: Easton, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shifts with variable hours between 7:00 AM and 8:30 PM
- Typical Shift Lengths: 8 to 10 hours (e.g., 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM or 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM)
- Patient Age Range: Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults
- Holidays: Required as scheduled, including on-call
- Weekends: Every other weekend required, including scheduled call
- Floating: Required within specialty and to other units/facilities within scope
- On-call: Required; approximately 3 shifts in a 4-week period, including Friday night, weekend, and holiday shifts
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal history within 30 days of start, updated annually
- Education verification
- State-specific exclusions list check (Maryland Medicaid Sanctioned Providers List)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 30-90 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask models required)
- Immunizations and titers:
- TDaP within 10 years or signed declination
- TB testing (QGOLD, TSPOT, or 2-step PPD) with annual updates as applicable
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters required
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer or declination (series not accepted)
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually (October 6 - March 31)
- COVID vaccine not required for this location but documentation or declination collected for tracking
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam (80% passing score)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (80% passing score) for RN specialties
- Age-specific competency exam (80% passing score)
- Color blindness testing (if applicable)
- Other Required Documents:
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s license or State ID)
- I9 attestation and E-Verify or attestation
- Badge photo (passport style with solid background)
- Confidentiality agreement and dress code acknowledgment
- TB questionnaire if positive TB test history
- Various facility-specific forms including orientation and access forms
Additional Notes
- Orientation is held at 8 AM on Tuesdays at the facility’s School of Nursing (2nd floor)
- Dress code: Royal Blue scrubs or business casual (scrubs required before floor access)
- Portfolio Epic training test-out option available for eligible candidates
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training required as applicable, with online module assigned prior to orientation
- On-call shifts include Friday 7 PM to Saturday 7 AM, Saturday 7 AM to Sunday 7 AM, Sunday 7 AM to 7:30 AM, and holiday day shifts
This position requires flexibility in scheduling, strong clinical skills in post-anesthesia care, and compliance with extensive credentialing and health requirements.
