Description
Registered Nurse – Family Birthing Center
Location: Redding, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery (L/D) RN for a travel assignment in a Family Birthing Center. The unit includes 19 postpartum beds, 12 L&D beds, 2 ORs, and 1 PACU. The facility manages low and high-risk deliveries and has a Level III NICU.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in Charge roles
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), Advanced Fetal Monitoring, AWHONN
- COVID-19 vaccination required (with certification)
Work Details
- Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM), 36 hours per week
- Weekend requirement: 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule (Saturday/Sunday days; Friday/Saturday nights)
- Holiday work as part of permanent staff rotation
- Nurse-to-patient ratios follow California regulations, ranging from 1:4 to 1:1
- No nurse aides; OB techs handle scrubbing and desk coverage
- No ventilator patients; RT and pharmacy available 24/7
- Laborist (OB physician) available in-house 24/7
- Floating to Pediatrics (couplets) and NICU feeders/growers only if experienced
- Orientation: 2-3 shifts depending on circulating experience (circulating not required)
- EMR systems used: Cerner and Fetal Link for fetal monitoring
- Dysrhythmia test (pass/fail) required on day one for L&D, Telemetry, Emergency, and Critical Care RNs
- Scrub color provided by the hospital
Patient Population & Care
- Care for low and high-risk deliveries
- Transfer out babies with known congenital defects requiring immediate surgery
- Peak patient volume in July and October
- Common diagnoses consistent with family birthing and postpartum care
Additional Notes
- Charge nurse roles include clinical supervisor (6-7 days) and staff team lead; nurse manager works Monday-Friday
- No telemetry patients on this unit
- Floating assignments limited and based on prior experience
- 12-hour night shifts every other week (EOW) with first priority to float
