    Description

    Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR)

    Location: San Diego, California
    Employment Type: Travel Nursing (Clinical - Nursing - Travel)
    Shift: 12-hour day shifts
    Hours per Week: 36 hours
    Contract Length: 13 weeks


    Job Summary

    Provide safe, therapeutic, and individualized nursing care to patients and their families in the Operating Room setting. Utilize the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—to promote quality outcomes and patient advocacy. Collaborate with healthcare team members to manage complex or high-risk clinical situations and ensure excellent patient care.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Assess patient and family needs, prioritizing both overt and subtle concerns.
    • Develop and document individualized, age- and culturally-appropriate plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
    • Implement and adapt nursing interventions according to the plan of care, seeking additional resources as needed.
    • Evaluate patient and family progress toward goals and adjust care plans accordingly.
    • Identify and address patient/family educational needs using adult-learning principles.
    • Recognize communication barriers and engage interdisciplinary expertise to foster therapeutic relationships.
    • Advocate for patients and families, encouraging participation in decision-making and upholding their rights.
    • Document patient care and communicate needs per departmental guidelines.
    • Delegate tasks appropriately within the scope of practice of other healthcare team members.
    • Coordinate and communicate with healthcare team and ancillary staff to optimize patient care and workflow.

    Required Qualifications

    • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
    • Minimum of 2 years recent Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
    • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

    Additional Information

    • On-call requirement: 16 hours on weekends and 24 hours on weekdays within a 4-week period, with a 30-minute response time. Weekend on-call is in addition to regularly scheduled weekend shifts. Scheduled two shifts every other weekend.

    This position is ideal for experienced OR nurses seeking a travel assignment with a focus on comprehensive perioperative patient care and interdisciplinary collaboration.
