Description
Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Eureka, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 18:00–6:30)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Preferred experience in postpartum care
- First-time travelers are welcome
- Weekend work required to meet staffing needs
- Patient load: approximately 20 visits per day
- Unit size: 11 rooms/beds, average daily census 15-20
- Float requirement: Travelers may be required to float within their scope to meet facility needs
- High-risk OB and culturally diverse patient population
- RNs circulate on cesarean sections
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or competency
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Social Security Card (as applicable for I9 verification)
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must include SSN trace, death master index, nationwide sex offender, FACIS Level 3, education verification, and others as applicable
- Education verification of nursing degree (required for all RNs)
- NURSYS license verification for RN license status
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work and free of infectious disease
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with acceptable documentation
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine or signed declination (required during flu season)
- COVID-19 vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to masking policies
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable)
- Respirator clearance (RespSafety) required annually for travel candidates
- Photo for badge (passport style with neutral background)
Additional Requirements
- Minimum of 2 professional references covering at least 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
- Employment application covering at least the last 5 years of employment with month/year format for dates
- Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp), including:
- Annual regulatory requirements for all caregivers
- Specialty-specific modules for Labor & Delivery and related clinical roles
- Regional core and specialty-specific modules as applicable
- Floating policy acknowledgment (may be required to float to other nearby facilities)
- Compliance with state-specific background and license requirements as applicable
Work Environment and Expectations
- Night shift with 48 hours per week (4 shifts x 12 hours)
- High-risk obstetrics and cesarean section circulation
- Culturally diverse patient population
- Ability and willingness to float within scope to meet staffing needs
- Weekend availability required
Notes
- No pending licenses accepted
- Return travelers with less than 30-day gap may have some background and drug screen waivers
- First-time travelers accepted
- No restrictions on return to work (RTO) beyond 7 days
- Prior travel experience is not required
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience in Labor and Delivery or postpartum care, who is flexible with floating and weekend shifts, and holds all required certifications and licenses for California.
