Description
Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Weston, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (5x8 hours)
On-Call: Every 4th weekday and every 4th weekend, including some holidays; must be within 30 minutes of the facility while on call
Job Description
- Work setting includes Ambulatory OR and General OR
- Surgical specialties covered:
- Endoscopic Procedures: Colonoscopy, EGD, Laparoscopic assisted cases, PEG tube placement/exchange
- General Surgery: Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Partial/total Thyroidectomy
- Gynecology: Abdominal/Vaginal hysterectomy, Bilateral tubal ligation, C-sections, Dilation & Curettage, Laparoscopic assisted gynecological procedures
- Ophthalmology: Cataract extraction/implant
- Orthopedic: ACL reconstruction, Arthroscopy, Carpal tunnel release, Closed and open reduction of fractures, Total joint replacement
- Pediatric General Surgery: Appendectomy
- Preferred skills: Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy (ENT), Bronchoscopy (Endoscopic)
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system: Cerner
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
- Minimum 1 year of OR Circulate experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications (must have prior to start):
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with endoscopic procedures including Colonoscopy, EGD, Laparoscopic assisted cases, and PEG tube placement/exchange
- Experience with general surgery procedures including Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, and Partial/total Thyroidectomy
Experience
- Prior travel experience preferred but not required
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
- Proof of E-Verify or attestation
- Background checks including:
- 7-year criminal history check (covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (updated every contract renewal)
- Education verification
- Drug screening: 10-panel within 30 days of start and updated annually
- Physical exam: Initial and updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- COVID vaccine or declination required
- Flu vaccine or agency-approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 13 – Apr 1)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD within 1 year or IGRA within 2 years) or chest X-ray if history of positive TB
- Titers or vaccinations for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred within 10 years
- Competency exams and color blindness testing as applicable
- Facility-specific documents including badge photo, background drug screen consent, confidentiality agreements, parking pass, and care learning modules (must be completed prior to start)
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Minimum two clinical references within past 2 years required
- Complete employment application/resume
Additional Notes
- Must complete Cerner learning training modules prior to orientation
- On-call availability requires proximity within 30 minutes of the facility
- ReadySet health assessment surveys may be required depending on facility policies
