Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Santa Monica, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a Labor and Delivery unit with:
- 4 antepartum rooms
- 9 labor/high risk rooms
- 3 triage rooms
- No on-call required
- May float to postpartum unit if needed (including postpartum couplet care: newborn and maternal)
- Responsibilities include:
- Fetal heart monitoring
- High-risk pregnancy monitoring
- Assisting with C-sections and vaginal deliveries
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Guaranteed hours but facility may call off once per two-week pay period
- Charting system: Epic
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications:
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)

- Total staffed beds: 266
- Scrub colors: Navy blue for RNs; special scrubs provided for L&D/OR/Cath Lab

Background and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Social Security Card (as applicable)
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- Education verification required for nursing degree (international education requires diploma/transcript)
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years (7 years for APN/Subcontractors)
- Minimum of 2 professional references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within last 3 years
- Work history verification required if reference exceptions are requested
- Float policy acknowledgment required (may float to other nearby facilities)
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work
- Fit mask test (respirator clearance) required annually; onsite testing available if no recent record
- Immunizations and/or proof of immunity required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years; declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; declination accepted
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination (special rules for Alaska placements)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; declination accepted
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
- COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with masking requirements
- 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable; 10-panel required for some Per Diem candidates)
Training and Competency Requirements
- Annual completion of regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp)
- Epic training modules required prior to or shortly after start
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring training required for all L&D RNs (via certification or assessment exam)
- Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units
Additional Notes
- No on-call required
- Block scheduling may be accommodated at manager’s discretion
- Pending licenses are not accepted
- Must include Return to Office (RTO) restrictions at time of submission
- Facility may call off once per two-week pay period
- Badge photo required (passport style with neutral background)
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs seeking a travel contract in a well-equipped acute care hospital with a focus on high-risk pregnancies and comprehensive maternal-newborn care.
