Registered Nurse (RN) - Step Down (Cardiac)

  • Saint Louis, Missouri

Employment Type

  • Travel assignment

Contract Length

  • 24 weeks

Shift

  • Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Weekend hours as required (approximately every other weekend)
  • No call requirements

Unit Information

  • Cardiac Med Intermediate (Step Down)
  • 32 beds
  • Patient ratio: 1:3 to 1:4
  • Equipment includes chest tubes, temporary pacemakers, BiPAPs
  • Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC
  • Patient population: Post-op CABG/Valve, thoracotomies, respiratory failure, chest pain

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Missouri
  • Minimum 1 year of Cardiac Step Down experience within the last year
  • Experience in an inpatient setting
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Valid Driver's License

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Care for patients post trauma, surgical interventions, and with medical comorbidities
  • Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments
  • Maintain patient rights and confidentiality
  • Float to similar or lower acuity units as needed
  • Maintain professional accountability and adhere to facility mission, values, and service standards

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Stand and walk most of the shift
  • Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
  • Ability to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs.; pinch up to 15 lbs.
  • Occasional kneeling, crouching, and crawling
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids

Additional Requirements

  • Flu vaccination required from November 1 through April 1; declinations not accepted
  • Night shift orientation occurs on day shift; availability for full orientation week required
  • Dress code: All black scrubs with facility logo; no hoodies, jackets without logo, t-shirts, open-toed shoes, earbuds, or fake nails
