Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location: Orange, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts (07:00 - 19:30)
- Schedule: Weekends may exceed every other weekend to meet unit needs
- Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Magnet recognized
- Charting System: Epic
- Parking: Free
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one prior travel assignment
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification or training
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Job Requirements & Conditions
- Local Radius: 50 miles
- Travel Pairs: Not allowed
- Scheduling: Requests due to outside employment will not be considered
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off once per pay period (2 weeks)
- References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
- Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with month/year format for dates
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Check:
- Must be within 90 days of start date, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Includes SSN Trace, Death Master Index, Nationwide and County checks, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level 3, Education Verification, MVR (if applicable), and International Background Search (if applicable)
- Felony or multiple DUI charges will result in cancellation
- Education Verification: Required for nursing degree; international education requires additional documentation
- Drug Testing: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable)
- Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation
- Immunizations & Health Requirements:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination (special rules for Alaska placements)
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives
- Seasonal Flu vaccine during flu season or signed declination
- COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted
- Respiratory Safety Clearance: Required annually for travel candidates, includes virtual questionnaire reviewed by healthcare professional
- Fit Mask Testing: Required for travel candidates, updated annually; onsite testing available if needed
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency as applicable
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) training or certification (AWHONN or NCC) required for all L&D RNs
- Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually for applicable units
Training & Modules
- Annual completion of regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp) required
- Epic training modules completion required prior to or shortly after orientation
- Badge photo (passport style with neutral background) required for badge issuance
Additional Notes
- Must comply with float policy; may be required to float to other nearby facilities
- No pending licenses accepted
- No travel pairs or first-time travelers accepted
- Scheduling flexibility limited; outside employment scheduling requests not considered
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with prior travel contract experience seeking a 13-week travel assignment in a large, Magnet-recognized acute care hospital in California.
