Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiac Observation Unit
Location: Tucson, Arizona
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36
Job Summary
Provide high-level nursing care for patients in the Cardiac Observation Unit (COU), focusing on pre- and post-procedure care for Cath Lab patients. Responsibilities include patient evaluation, planning and documenting nursing care, assisting physicians during examinations and procedures, performing patient tests, and administering medications within RN scope of practice. The unit manages high-risk, high-acuity patients and performs bedside procedures such as Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) and Cardioversions (CV).
Key Responsibilities
- Admit and prepare patients for cardiac catheterization procedures, including charting pre-procedure checklists and IV access preparation
- Prepare patients for Cardioversions (CV) and Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE)
- Recover patients post-procedure who received conscious sedation
- Sedate, circulate, and document bedside procedures (CV & TEE)
- Discharge patients with appropriate teaching, documentation, and physical discharge
- Assist physicians during examinations and procedures
Shift & Call Requirements
- Shift varies with 3 different 12-hour day shifts (start times between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM)
- Call rotation approximately once every 4 to 6 weeks
- Call includes Saturdays (7:00 AM–5:00 PM) and Sundays (7:00 AM–2:00 PM)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Arizona
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum of 1 year of Electrophysiology Lab experience within the last year
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred Experience
Experience in any of the following areas will be considered on a case-by-case basis:
- Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- Telemetry
- Cath Lab
- Surgery Center
