Unit Description
- 25-bed Labor & Delivery/Postpartum Unit including:
- Labor & Delivery (L&D)
- Postpartum (PP)
- Newborn Nursery (NBN)
- 2 Operating Rooms (ORs)
- 2 Recovery Rooms (RRs)
- 2 Antepartum (ANU) rooms with 4 beds
- Average daily census: 15-25 mothers, babies, and labors
Shift Details
- Rotating shifts between:
- 7:00 am to 7:30 pm
- 11:00 am to 11:30 pm
- 7:00 pm to 7:30 am
- Includes 1 night of call every other week (EOW) for 36 or 48 hours
- No straight day shifts available; primarily day position with evening and night rotations as needed
Patient Ratios
- Labor & Delivery:
- 1:2-3 during evaluations
- 1:1 during active labor, magnesium infusion, or epidural
- Postpartum:
- 1:3-4
Required Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Labor and Delivery nursing

Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
- EPIC
Required Certifications and Licenses
- Current Massachusetts RN license (no conditional licenses accepted)
- BLS (American Heart Association only)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) certification, accepted certifications include NCC, K2, or AWHONN (2-year renewal required)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) preferred (American Heart Association only)
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Documentation of immunity or vaccination for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) via vaccines or blood titer
- TB screening within 3 months prior to start date (skin test or blood test), updated if break >6 months
- If positive TB test, chest x-ray documentation showing no active tuberculosis required
- Physician health statement within 1 year of start date, updated if break >6 months
- Criminal background check including Massachusetts CORI within 45 days prior to start date, updated if break >6 months
- Social Security Number trace and national sex offender registry check within 30 days prior to start date, updated annually
- Exclusion checks against OIG, GSA, MassHealth, and NH Medicaid lists within 30 days prior to start date, updated annually
- Verification of highest level of education achieved
- Documentation of 2 professional references within 4 years, including at least 1 supervisor or higher in the skillset
- Completion of medication and dysrhythmia exams with minimum 80% passing score within 1 year
- Submission of a skills checklist within 1 year
- Confirmation of assignment form required for all initial assignments and extensions
Additional Notes
- Floating is not required
- Must be able to work rotating shifts including nights and weekends
- Must comply with all credentialing and onboarding requirements prior to start date
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs seeking a rotating shift role in a busy, well-equipped unit with a focus on comprehensive maternal and newborn care.
