Location

Lewiston, Maine
2nd largest city in Maine with access to outdoor recreational activities and cultural attractions
Nearby: 45 minutes to Portland Maine International Airport, 1.5 hours to Bangor International Airport, 2.5 hours to Boston Logan Airport

Contract length: 13 weeks

Unit & Facility Overview

Level 2 Trauma Center with 4 critical care bays
Emergency Department (ED) with 190 beds in the hospital
Patient population ranges from pediatrics to geriatrics (pediatric patients approximately 5%)
Teleneurology support for stroke cases
No Pediatric ICU (PICU); transfers required for PICU patients
Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
Equipment includes ultrasound, bladder scanner, neuro telecomputer, Care Aware handheld devices
Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems: Omnicell, EPIC, SBAR

Position Details

Role: Registered Nurse (RN) in Emergency Department
Shift: Approximately 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
Weekend hours: No guaranteed weekends off; schedule aims to be fair
Call requirements: None
Float requirements: Travelers required to float to ED holding area

Required Certifications

ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
BCLS/BLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support/Basic Life Support)
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
NIH Stroke Scale certification
TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) preferred

Requirements/Qualifications

Valid RN license in Maine
Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience
Emergency Department experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
ACLS certification
BLS certification
PALS certification
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
TNCC certification

Additional Information

The facility is a Joint Commission accredited teaching hospital
The area served is economically depressed, requiring adaptability to diverse patient needs
