Description
Registered Nurse Case Manager – Behavioral Health
Location: Juneau, Alaska
Employment Type: Contract (13 weeks)
Shift Options:
- Monday through Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM
- Monday through Friday, 10 AM – 7 PM
- Tuesday through Saturday, 8 AM – 5 PM
Hours per Week: 40
Job Summary
Provide professional nursing care across the lifespan with a focus on behavioral health and substance use disorder (SUD) outpatient case management. Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary teams to promote optimal patient outcomes, safety, and positive patient experience. Facilitate medical care and medication refills for behavioral health/psychiatry patients, coordinate care plans, conduct nursing evaluations, injections, and lab collections as appropriate. Deliver culturally sensitive, evidence-based mental health nursing care aligned with treatment plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Implement and evaluate nursing interventions and patient responses.
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately per provider orders.
- Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions or escalate care.
- Provide patient and family education related to care, medications, and discharge needs.
- Facilitate referrals, follow-up care, and continuity of services.
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
- Advocate for patient care and assist patients in navigating the healthcare system.
- Practice within nursing scope and adhere to regulatory, safety, and infection prevention requirements.
- Participate in quality and performance improvement activities.
- Provide guidance and delegation to ancillary staff; support orientation, mentoring, and education of staff, students, and peers.
- Float to other departments or assignments as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Alaska at time of application.
- Associate’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Case management experience within the last 2 years.
- Proof of flu vaccine required.
Additional Information
- Must live at least 50 miles away from the worksite to be eligible.
- Start date will be a minimum of 6 weeks after fingerprint cards are received.
- No housing or flights provided.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in behavioral health or case management preferred.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
