ICU RN Travel Position - Salem, Massachusetts


Position Details

  • Specialty: RN ICU (Medical Intensive Care Unit)
  • Employment Type: Travel
  • Shift: Nights and Every Other Weekend (EOW), 36 hours per week
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Unit: 20-bed Medical/Surgical ICU (Level III Trauma Center)
  • Patient Population: Adult patients with conditions such as substance abuse/overdose, severe psychiatric conditions, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), sepsis, GI bleed, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, renal failure, and cardiogenic shock
  • Floating: Required to Medical/Surgical units (up to 4-5 patients)
  • RN to Patient Ratio: 1:2 or 1:1 for high acuity; 1:4 or 1:5 when floated
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of continuous adult ICU experience, preferably in a Medical ICU
  • Skills: Must be able to read telemetry strips; telemetry competency required
  • Licensure: Active Massachusetts RN license (conditional licenses not accepted)
  • Certifications:
    • AHA BLS (American Heart Association Basic Life Support) only (no Red Cross accepted)
    • AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Fit test for N95 respirator within 365 days of start date (no onsite fit testing; must be completed prior)
    • Respirator Medical Clearance (RMC) attestation
    • Passing scores on facility-specific medication and advanced dysrhythmia exams (80% passing within 365 days)
    • Documentation of MMR vaccination or immunity
    • TB screening within 3 months of start date (skin test or blood test), updated if break >6 months
    • Health statement signed by MD/DO/NP/PA within 365 days of start date
    • Criminal background checks including Massachusetts CORI, SSN trace, national sex offender registry, and exclusion checks (OIG, GSA, Medicaid lists) within 30 days of start and updated annually
    • Verification of highest level of education
    • Submission of resume with 7 years of work history including city and state
    • Two professional references within 4 years (minimum one supervisor-level)
    • Completion of skills checklist within 1 year
    • Confirmation of assignment form upon acceptance and updates if start date changes

Work Environment & Additional Information

  • Facility Type: Complex community hospital with 400+ beds including Med Surg, ICU, and Maternity units
  • Shift Rotation: Night shift does not rotate; day shifts rotate between 7a-7p, 11a-11p, or 7p-7a if needed
  • Parking: Free on-site parking available

Summary

This travel ICU RN role requires a minimum of 2 years of continuous adult ICU experience with strong telemetry skills. The position involves night shifts and every other weekend coverage in a busy 20-bed MICU with floating responsibilities to medical/surgical units. Candidates must hold an active Massachusetts RN license and current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications. Comprehensive health screenings, background checks, and facility-specific competency exams are mandatory prior to start. The contract length is approximately 13 weeks.
