Job Description

Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) for a travel contract in an operating room setting. The role involves assisting in a high-volume OR with 7 suites and approximately 18-20 cases per day. Common surgical cases include laparoscopic, bariatrics, orthopedic, neurology, urology, gynecology, and ENT procedures.

Work Environment & Requirements

• Unit: Operating Room (OR)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1 or 2:1
• Call Requirement: Yes, including some nights and weekends

  • One week of night call per month
  • Two 12-hour weekend call shifts per month
  • Call response time: 30 minutes
• Weekend Requirement: No regular weekend shifts for RNs
• Holidays: Required to work
• Shifts: Variable (8 or 10 hours)
• Floating: Limited to pre- and post-operative areas only
• Floor-specific orientation provided
• Scrub color/uniform provided
• Scrubbing: Preferred but not required for RNs; 10-hour day shifts
• EMR system: Cerner
• Telemetry equipment: Phillips
• Ventilator support: Available
• 24/7 coverage by surgeons, respiratory therapists, and pharmacy staff

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California
• First Assist (2 years of experience)
• First Assist experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• CNOR
• CCI
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Additional Information

• Charge nurse and OR tech support available
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred for techs
• No prior travel experience explicitly required
