Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg Unit

Location: Uniontown, Pennsylvania
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

• Unit: 2E MedSurg (includes areas 2N & 2S, treated as one large unit)
• Beds: 29 private beds
• Patient types:

  • MedSurg patients including pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, end-of-life care
  • Some inpatient chemo (administered by director/manager)
  • COVID-positive patients housed on one hallway ("dirty" area); "clean" patients on a separate hallway—assignment may include both simultaneously; comfort with this required
• Common diagnoses on 1W MedSurg (separate unit): post-surgical and orthopedic patients

Work Schedule & Shifts

• Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Hours per week: 36
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday) plus 2 Fridays per schedule (often grouped Fri-Sat-Sun)
• Holidays: Participate in permanent staff holiday rotation
• Self-scheduling and blocked schedules allowed if unit needs are met

Staffing & Ratios

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6-7
• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Clinical Manager Mon-Sat acts as charge nurse and nurse manager; takes patients only if census >24
• Nights: Resource nurse with full patient assignment
• Nurse Aides: 2 CNAs on day shifts; no CNAs on nights
• Floating: Only to other MedSurg units

Patient Care & Procedures

• Telemetry: Patients may be on remote telemetry monitored by a tech on a different floor; no telemetry monitors on the unit itself
• Drips: Heparin and possibly morphine sulfate for comfort measures; no cardiac drips
• Ventilation: Bipap, Cpap, High Flow managed by Respiratory Therapy
• Nurse’s read strips: Not used

Orientation & Training

• Floor-specific orientation: 1 shift with a preceptor

Required Certifications & Qualifications

• Current RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Must be comfortable caring for both COVID-positive and non-COVID patients on the same unit
• Must disclose any professional license issues at time of submission
• Must provide a copy of an unexpired driver’s license (50-mile radius rule applies)

Dress Code

• Scrubs: Navy blue; jackets (if worn) must also be navy blue

This position is ideal for experienced MedSurg RNs comfortable with a diverse patient population including infectious disease precautions and working night shifts with a structured weekend and holiday schedule.
