Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty

Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit Type: Medical/Surgical unit with mixed Stepdown (SD) and Acute Care (MS) patients
Patient Population:

• Post-surgical kidney, liver, and pancreas transplant patients
• Pre-transplant patients undergoing evaluation
• Patients requiring close monitoring for infection, rejection, and medication delivery

Job Description

• Provide nursing care to patients with a range of health problems from simple to complex under general supervision
• Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients
• Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed treatments, noting changes in physician orders
• Assist physicians with patient examinations and minor diagnostic procedures
• Obtain and monitor physiological data, observe patient conditions, and intervene as necessary
• Administer medications, regulate and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products
• Deliver competent patient care and communicate care plans to patients and families during hospitalization and at discharge
• Inform patients and families about hospital procedures
• Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel
• Delegate tasks to support staff
• May work on either Medical/Surgical or Stepdown patients depending on unit needs and nurse availability
• Preceptor and charge nurse experience preferred

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma
• Minimum 1 year of Medical/Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Experience in an Acute Care setting
• Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher from a board-approved program
• Experience with ENT and/or transplant patients preferred
• Transplant experience preferred
• Preceptor and charge nurse experience preferred

Additional Information

• This is NOT a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) position
• Nurses from short-staffed or ICU units may be floated to work Stepdown patients based on acuity and skill set
• The unit cares for a complex patient population requiring close monitoring and timely interventions
