Description
Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) - Travel/Contract
Location: Lakeport, California
Shift: Day (4x10 hours), 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Hours per Week: 40
Job Summary
- Travel/contract position requiring credentialing through the health system after offer acceptance (process takes several weeks).
- Split call responsibilities with another RNFA.
- Required to work 2 weekends per month.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
- Minimum 2 years of First Assist experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- ACLS certification.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Prior travel nursing experience.
- Operating Room (OR) experience.
Contract Length
- 13 weeks.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check within 6 months of start, including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC sanctions list, Medi-Cal Suspended and Ineligible Provider List searches as applicable.
- Education verification required; BSN preferred.
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana due to CA law).
- Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps; employment verification required for up to 7 years.
- 2 professional references required (clinical/allied/per diem acute care).
Certifications and Competencies
- ACLS, BLS, PALS (AHA or ARC only).
- CNOR and CRNFA certifications mandatory.
- Additional certifications may be required based on position (e.g., NRP, CCRN, TNCC, EFM, CPI) – verify as applicable.
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG may be required.
- ICU & MS/Telemetry RNs at certain locations may require pass/fail EKG testing onsite after start.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared for work.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually; religious exemptions and failed fit test protocols apply.
- Adult TDAP vaccine within 10 years or lifetime TDAP with booster within 10 years.
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT within 90 days) or 2-step PPD; annual renewal required.
- Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series or signed declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (11/1–4/30) or signed declination with mask-wearing requirement.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months, excluding marijuana.
Facility-Specific Documents and Training
- Must review and sign facility-specific documents including job description, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, overpayment refund policy, and regulatory orientation prior to start.
- TB screening questionnaire required within 90 days of start, signed by candidate and healthcare provider (MD, PA, NP/APN, DO, or RN).
- Epic questionnaire required for RNs starting 11/3/2025 and onward.
- Religious exemption forms required for facial hair (PAPR) and certain vaccine exemptions; approval required.
Additional Notes
- Candidate must complete credentialing application post-offer acceptance.
- Split call duties with other RNFA staff.
- Background check and credentialing processes are extensive and must be completed timely to avoid delays.
- Prior travel experience is mandatory.
