Description

Registered Nurse – General Medicine PCU (Ventilator Experience Required)

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Schedule & Shift Details

  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Day shift: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work at least one holiday during the 13-week contract
  • Call-off Policy: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Floating: Required to float within skillset as needed

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Active Virginia State RN license or Compact RN license required
  • Pending single-state license accepted only if from a non-compact state
  • ACLS (American Heart Association)
  • BLS (American Heart Association)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Required Clinical Skills & Experience

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Ventilator experience, including care for chronic trach and vent-dependent patients
  • Dysrhythmia interpretation and management experience
  • Central and peripheral line care experience
  • Rapid Response and Code team activation experience
  • Telemetry monitoring experience
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Unit & Patient Population Details

  • Unit Type: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – hybrid unit with 10 PCU beds and 2 ICU beds
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 1 nurse to 5 patients
  • Patient Diagnoses: DKA, COPD, Sepsis, Suicide/Overdose, Chronic respiratory failure, renal failure
  • Vent/trach dependent patients, including 2 beds for chronic trach patients
  • Remote telemetry monitoring with tele-sitting to increase Patient Care Tech coverage

Additional Requirements & Information

  • Drivers License/State ID with an address within 100 miles of the facility required within 48 hours of signing
  • Background Check: 7-year history required within 1 year of start; must cover all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • E-Verify or attestation required
  • Education Verification: Proof of highest earned medical degree required (transcript or diploma)
  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start, confirming freedom from communicable diseases
  • Fit Mask Test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Two clinical references required
  • Completion of facility-specific new hire paperwork and orientation materials prior to start
  • Professional photo required for badge (no selfies or filters)

Notes

  • First-time travel nurses are accepted for this position
  • Locals within the radius are also accepted
  • Must include all scheduling requests (RTO, block, special) with submission
