Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Randallstown, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Description
- Work in the Emergency Room (ER) on night shifts.
- Schedule includes every other weekend and every other holiday.
- Patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on unit.
- Unit includes specialized care areas:
- Primary Stroke Center (Gold status with American Heart Association)
- STEMI cases with catheterization intervention support
- Two locked behavioral health units with 1:6 ratio, supported by ED staffing and security
- Two rapid evaluation units for urgent and critical care needs with rapid medical screenings
- Scrubs color: Navy Blue
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland.
- Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Completion of at least 1 prior travel assignment.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Certifications required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required; temporary paper receipt allowed only as placeholder until official ID is received.
- Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually. Includes SS trace, counties, nationwide, sex offender, FACIS Level 3, education verification, and international searches if applicable.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- Education verification and transcript/diploma upload required for nursing education programs, especially if completed outside Maryland.
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs.
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to meet essential job functions.
- Negative TB test (PPD, GOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year; pending results allowed with confirmation. If history of positive TB, negative chest X-ray within 5 years plus TB symptom questionnaire within 30 days of start required.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters if negative)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters or proof of chickenpox history if negative)
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; instant 9-panel can be used as placeholder. Marijuana/THC excluded from panel.
- Respirator fit test to be completed onsite; annual expiration required for new contracts.
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Unit-specific skills checklist required.
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required annually; only Relias or Prophecy exams accepted.
- Candidates have up to 3 attempts (2 attempts for some facilities) to pass.
- Remediation courses required after failed attempts.
- Some facilities require on-site EKG exam after failed attempts.
- Pass/fail testing acknowledgment required for EKG and medication exams.
- Stroke and Trauma CEUs required:
- Stroke CEUs must be stroke-related, updated annually, and completed prior to or within one week of start. NIHSS counts toward hours if completed within the year.
- Trauma CEUs required after 27 weeks of work, usually at extension; must be trauma-related and renewed annually. TNCC course accepted for initial trauma CEUs.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Badge photo required for identification.
- Completion and signing of parking registration, attendance policy, floating policy, and consent to release information forms prior to start.
- ReadySet account setup and completion of health assessment surveys required before starting.
- EKG study guides will be provided to prepare for competency exams.
- I9/E-Verify attestation required.
- References: 2 professional references within 2 years preferred (1 reference for non-acute care). References can substitute for work history verification if from direct supervisors.
- Employment application required.

- The unit accepts first-time travelers but requires prior travel experience for this position.
- Rapid medical screening and behavioral health support are integral parts of the ER environment.
