OR Tech / Surgical Tech - Columbus, Ohio (Travel/Contract)

Job Details

• Hours per Week: 36-40 (flexible depending on candidate)
• Call Requirements:

  • Weekdays: 21:00 - 06:30
  • Weekends: 19:00 - 06:30 (12-hour shifts)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 3 years of Surgical Tech experience required
• Experience in the following surgical areas:

  • Neurosurgery
  • Spine
  • Complex Orthopedics/Ortho Spine
  • Complex General Surgery (including Bariatric surgery)
• Required experience with Level I Trauma and Neuro cases
• Preferred experience in ENT, GU, Plastics, and Burns
• Prior travel experience preferred (not required)

Certifications & Licenses

• BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required
• EPIC experience preferred
• National certification for Surgical Technologists is not required
• State license verification required within 30 days of start
• Annual acknowledgment of Orientation Safety Manual
• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) — verify per assignment

Background & Compliance Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
• Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
• Education accreditation verification required for nursing candidates (not applicable for Surgical Tech)
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
• Employment application and skills checklist required
• Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
• Fit mask test required annually for patient-facing roles (including Surgical Tech) starting 7/13/2026 and beyond
• Immunizations/vaccinations required:

  • Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire annually)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer, medical exemptions require documentation)
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
• COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Information

• Call and weekend coverage required
• Parking permits available for agency staff (costs and options vary)
• Unit-specific competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency exams required prior to start
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for RNs (not applicable for Surgical Tech)
• Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and annually
• Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually
• Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required

This position offers variable shift lengths (8, 10, or 12 hours) with a primary night shift focus and flexible weekly hours. Candidates should be prepared for call responsibilities including nights and weekends.
