Description
Registered Nurse (ER Float Pool) – Colorado Springs Zone 1
Location
- Based in Colorado Springs, CO area
- Must float within a 60-mile radius zone covering multiple hospitals around Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Canon City, CO
- No home base facility; floating required across all zone facilities
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Shift & Schedule
- Night shifts
- 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
- Weekend and holiday work every other week
- Schedules released 4–6 weeks in advance
- Scheduling formats:
- Option A: Scheduled at a single facility for the week, may float within that facility
- Option B: Just-In-Time (JIT) assignment 1–2 hours before shift start
Unit & Patient Care
- ER/ED Float Pool
- Trauma Level varies (mostly Level 3 and one Level 4)
- Majority of facilities are STEMI receiving and Stroke centers
- Patient volume varies by location: 40–168 patients per day
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4–5 depending on acuity
- Common patient diagnoses: abdominal pain, diabetes mellitus, NSTEMI, pneumonia, trauma, stroke, hypertension
- Mixed ER holds (no separate holding area)
- No separate psych/seclusion rooms
- Charge nurse present and takes assignments
- Respiratory therapists available 24/7; RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips (no monitor techs)
- RNs perform point-of-care lab testing after training
- Techs assist with unit secretary duties, nursing support, and triage assistance
Required Certifications
- ACLS (AHA)
- BLS (AHA)
- PALS (AHA)
- NIHSS
- TNCC
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience
Orientation
- 2–3 days unit/department-specific orientation
- Clinicians must be in-state for the week of orientation even if some modules are remote
Additional Requirements
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to submit it
- Must secure housing that allows floating within the full 60-mile zone
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
This position requires flexibility to float across multiple ER facilities within the designated zone, strong ED nursing experience, and current certifications relevant to emergency care.
