Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiology (Contract)

Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Contract
Shift: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Hours per Week: 37.5 hours (7 hours/day)
Contract Length: 9 weeks


Job Summary

Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to cardiology patients using evidence-based practice and nursing theory. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Support patient education, discharge planning, and promote health and disease prevention.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Deliver care based on Relationship Centered Care and nursing process.
  • Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
  • Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team on care plans.
  • Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on care plans and health promotion.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, families, and team members.
  • Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing model.

Patient Experience

  • Facilitate admission welcome, bedside shift report, purposeful hourly rounding, medication review, discharge wrap-up, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions.
  • Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns as needed.
  • Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.

Quality and Safety

  • Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers to improvement.
  • Demonstrate clinical skills essential to quality and safety.
  • Implement process improvement and participate in peer/institutional reviews.
  • Collaborate on quality improvement projects and nursing research.
  • Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
  • Escalate safety hazards following chain of command.
  • Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.

Operations

  • Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate supply and inventory management with leadership.
  • Escalate material or staffing shortages appropriately.
  • Use patient-focused, cost-effective approaches to resource management.
  • Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
  • Minimum 2 years of cardiology nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • At least 1 year of travel nursing experience required for travel positions.
  • Medical-surgical nursing experience.
  • Telemetry nursing experience.

  • Work schedule includes weekends and holidays on a 3x12 schedule.
  • Unit size: 32 beds.
