Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Fullerton, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Patient Ratio: 1:2
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital
Total Staffed Beds: 320
Job Description
- Provide expert Labor and Delivery nursing care, including independent performance of sterile vaginal exams without supervision.
- Must be able to perform sterile vaginal exams and triage per unit requirements (hard stop).
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system is required.
- Open to working weekends; weekend shifts are required every other weekend and may exceed this to meet unit needs.
- May be required to float to mother-baby units.
- Scheduling requests due to additional employment will not be considered.
- Local radius for assignment is 50 miles.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
- Minimum 1.5 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- AWHONN Advanced
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable).
- Education verification required for nursing degree.
- Minimum of 2 professional references covering at least 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years.
- Employment application covering at least the last 5 years of employment with month/year format required.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation.
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years or declination accepted
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with acceptable documentation
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to infection prevention measures
- Fit mask testing required annually (on-site testing available if no valid record within 1 year).
Additional Information
- Must be open to floating to mother-baby units as needed.
- Scheduling accommodations and block schedules are at manager discretion.
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period.
- Badge photo required for identification.
- Annual completion of regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp) is required.
- Epic training modules must be completed as assigned.
Summary
This is a travel/contract Labor and Delivery RN position requiring strong clinical skills in L&D, including sterile vaginal exams, with a minimum of 2 years of experience (1.5 years hard stop). Certifications including AWHONN Advanced and Neonatal Resuscitation are mandatory. The role requires night shifts with weekend availability and flexibility to float to mother-baby units. Compliance with extensive background, health, and training requirements is mandatory.
Note: Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
