Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Telemetry

• Martinsville, Virginia

• Contract length: 13 weeks

Unit & Facility Overview

• Medical Surgical Unit with 41 beds
• Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
• Serves all age groups
• Electronic Health Record system: Meditech
• Night shift: 7 PM – 7 AM
• Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
• Weekend hours: Every other weekend / as needed
• Call requirements: As needed
• Float requirements: As needed; may require travel within a 25-mile radius of the facility

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Registered Nurse license valid in Virginia
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Scale certification
• Handle with Care certification

Experience Requirements

• 1 to 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical Telemetry nursing

Job Responsibilities & Skills

• Provide nursing care for post-operative orthopedic patients, including total joint procedures
• Demonstrate critical thinking and decisive judgment
• Ability to work independently and in stressful environments
• Flexibility to work all shift patterns including weekends and holidays to ensure continuity of care
• Maintain appropriate nursing coverage across units as needed

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum of 1 year of Medical Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Handle with Care certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Additional Information

• Orientation offered bi-weekly on Tuesdays
• Random drug screening and criminal background consent required prior to start
• Dress code: Scrubs required; no casual wear allowed; no specific scrub color mandated
