Registered Nurse (ICU) - Nebraska, Kearney
Job Details
- Specialty: ICU Registered Nurse
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 1830-0630)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Unit: Intensive Care Unit (33 beds, average daily census 16)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 for adults
- Common Patient Diagnoses: Trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress
- Orientation: 1 shift of unit-specific orientation
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Minimum of 2 holidays during contract
- Floating: Typically to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or occasionally MedSurg with typical ratios (1:4 or 1:5)
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling available for core staff and travelers; block scheduling generally not approved except possibly weekends only
- Call Back: If placed on call and called back in, must arrive within 30 minutes
Clinical Responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
- Monitor and interpret telemetry strips (monitor brand: GE) and document findings
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators
- Work alongside respiratory therapists and nurse aides as needed
Required Certifications and Licenses
- Current RN license
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Additional Requirements and Policies
- Must have a valid driver’s license at time of submission; candidates must live within a 50-mile radius of the facility
- Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific health system (CommonSpirit, CHI, Dignity)
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
- RN candidates must pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%; the exam is open book with resources provided
- Return to work (RTO) must be within 7 days or less for this 13-week contract; no additional RTO extensions will be approved
- Weekend shifts are Saturday and Sunday
- Nurse aides and healthcare support techs assist based on census and patient needs
