Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse
Location: Pocatello, Idaho
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Nights, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
- Unit Size: 48 beds/rooms
- Float: Required, with competencies
- Charting System: Epic (experience required)
- Patient Diagnoses:
Sepsis, CIWA, Confusion, Altered Mental Status, COPD, Post-op care, Acute Kidney Injury, Trauma, Respiratory failure, Bowel obstruction, Pyelonephritis, Cardiac conditions, Diabetes, GI conditions, Isolation precautions, Suicidal ideation with medical indications
Required Qualifications
- License: Valid Registered Nurse license in Idaho
- Experience: Minimum 2 years preferred in Medical Surgical nursing (will accept 1 year)
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) within 12 months of hire
- Travel Experience: Preferred but not mandatory
- Technical Skills: Proficient with Epic electronic medical records system
- Other: Must have a valid Driver’s License or State ID
Essential Job Functions
- Apply the Nursing Process across all age groups: infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
- Thorough documentation following regulatory and hospital standards
- Maintain clinical competencies and support professional development of self and others
- Adapt to varied shifts including weekends and holidays
- Work effectively in a busy, high-stress environment with changing patient safety requirements
- Utilize good judgment, patience, and best practices in patient care
- Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
- Adult TDAP vaccine within 10 years (medical exemptions require approval)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year
- Required immunizations or positive titers for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (or declination)
- Varicella (or documented history)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
- Background checks including 7-year history, education verification, and federal exclusions screening
Additional Requirements
- Must live at least 100 miles from the facility to qualify
- Complete employment application and resume required
- Annual unit-specific skills checklist
- 7-year work history verification required
- Ability to pass competency exams as applicable (medication/pharmacology, color blindness, core competencies)
Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract for a Medical Surgical RN working night shifts in a 48-bed unit with a 1:6 patient ratio. The role requires at least 2 years of nursing experience (1 year accepted), Epic charting proficiency, and current BLS and ACLS certifications. Candidates must meet comprehensive health, immunization, and background screening requirements and live more than 100 miles from the facility. Flexibility to float and work varied shifts is expected.
