Description
Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Shift: Night shift (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work primarily on a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department and other stepdown/PCU units.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
- Orientation includes passing an ECG rhythm recognition test and a medication administration exam (SafeMedicate).
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1.5 years of Stepdown nursing experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year.
- Current certifications required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required and must be carried on assignment.
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) must be current and updated annually. Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and results received prior to contract extension.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start date confirming ability to perform essential job functions; latex allergy notification required if applicable.
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray with annual questionnaire if history positive
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B vaccination/titer or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if needed
- Annual flu vaccination (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions require agency approval)
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year, not required annually if continuously employed without break.
Orientation & Training
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start is mandatory. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome and cannot be skipped.
- SafeMedicate preparation materials provided for medication competency exam.
- Baseline competency exams (medication administration and ECG interpretation) required at orientation with minimum passing scores (90% medication, 80% ECG). Retakes allowed with remediation.
- Candidates with less than 6 months gap from previous assignment at the facility may be exempt from some orientation testing.
References & Employment History
- Two professional references required from supervisors or managers within the last year.
- Employment application must include at least 3 years of prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared to complete fingerprinting at the facility in addition to agency fingerprinting.
- Candidates with name changes must ensure legal name is updated and consistent across all documentation.
- Travel experience in Stepdown or PCU is acceptable to meet experience requirements.
- This is a travel/contract position with a fixed 13-week duration.
