Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Hagerstown, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 18:30–7:00)
Hours per Week: 48


Job Description

  • Work on Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) unit with rotation through Labor, Triage, and Mother-Baby postpartum care.
  • Postpartum nurses typically care for 3-4 couplets; Labor nurses care for 1-2 patients.
  • Responsibilities include OB surgical recovery (C-section) care (highly preferred).
  • Weekend schedule: Every other weekend (EOW).
  • On-call hours approximately 16-20 hours over a 6-week schedule; some staff opt to pick up extra shifts instead of call.
  • Must be comfortable rotating through all roles on the unit.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland.
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Experience in Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) care.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Copy of valid Driver’s License/State ID matching state of compact license if applicable.
  • Proof of E-Verify or Attestation.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SS trace, counties, nationwide, sex offender registry, and federal exclusions updated annually.
  • Maryland CJIS/DSS/FBI fingerprinting required for school placements only.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific mask types preferred).
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years of start.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; positive results require chest X-ray and TB questionnaire updated annually.
  • Immunization or positive titer proof for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (vaccination, positive titer, or declination accepted)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 1 year of start.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required; declinations or exemptions are not accepted.
  • Proof of 2 clinical references.
  • Skills checklist updated annually as applicable.

Additional Information

  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exams required as applicable.
  • Core competency testing required for subcontractors.
  • NIH Stroke Certification required for all units except Pediatrics, OB, and Labor & Delivery; must be updated annually.
  • On-call hours and weekend shifts are part of the schedule.
  • Locals are not accepted for this travel position.

This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery nurses comfortable with a variety of roles on the LDRP unit, including postpartum couplet care and OB surgical recovery. The role requires strong clinical skills, relevant certifications, and compliance with comprehensive health and background documentation.
