Registered Nurse (RN) – High Acuity Critical Care Unit

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit Type: Critical Care (ICU)
• Number of Beds: 8
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3
• Patient Types: Respiratory failure, post-surgical, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, cardiac patients
• Care Complexity: Sedated and ventilated patients, tracheostomy care, PEG tube feedings, CVC/PICC/Midline care
• Drip Management: RNs are required to titrate drips including Precedex, Propofol, Fentanyl, Versed, Lasix, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levophed, Dopamine, Cardizem, and other ICU-level drips
• Support Staff: No nurse aides or patient care techs; nurses provide all primary care in ICU
• Physician Coverage: Hospitalist/Intensivist on-site during day shift; tele-health MD coverage after hours
• Respiratory Therapist (RT): Available in-house 24/7; RNs assist with troubleshooting ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow devices
• Telemetry Monitoring: All beds have hard-wired Phillips telemetry monitors; telemetry tech monitors centrally in ICU
• Charge Nurse: No charge nurse on each shift; house supervisor available 24/7

Scheduling & Requirements

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Weekly Hours: 36 hours
• Weekend: Every other weekend and as needed to fill shifts
• Holidays: Holiday rotation and as needed to fill shifts
• Call/Standby: Not currently required but may change
• Floating: ICU RNs may float to Medical-Surgical unit
• Orientation: 12 non-billable hours classroom orientation plus 2 shifts on unit with preceptor
• Dress Code: Scrubs only; OSF-approved t-shirts allowed in any color

Required Certifications & Licenses

• License: Active Illinois RN license or proof of application in process
• Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA)

Experience & Skills

• Specialty Experience: Critical care nursing with skills in ventilator management, titrating drips, and care of complex ICU patients
• Specific Skills: PEG tube care, CVC/PICC/Midline care, tracheostomy care, sedation and pain control drip management
• Prior Travel Experience: Not specified as required

Additional Notes

• Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Call-off policy allows 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty or shift payment obligation
