Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Location: Hickory, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Work on a medical surgical unit (4 North) with 18 beds, serving adult and geriatric patients.
• Patient ratio is approximately 1:6.
• Unit uses Cerner electronic health records (EHR).
• Equipment includes Baxter IV pumps, SCD machines, Kangaroo feeding pumps, and PCA pumps.
• Float requirements as needed to surgical, neuro, and intermediate units (may take med surg level patients).
• No call requirements.
• Weekend shifts every other weekend.
• Weekly guaranteed hours: 36 (day shift).

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Minimum 2 years of medical surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Cerner electronic health records (EHR)

Preferred Qualifications

• Charge nurse experience preferred.

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Adult and geriatric medical surgical patients.
• Common conditions include COPD exacerbation, GI bleed, diabetic complications, wound care, pancreatitis, sickle cell crisis, end-of-life/hospice care, falls, weakness, sepsis, and infections.

Work Environment & Culture

• Busy floor requiring team players and strong patient advocates.
• Scrub color: any.
• No specific unacceptable attire noted.

Additional Notes

• Must have Cerner experience.
• Orientation start dates are scheduled throughout August to December 2026.
• Candidates must live 60 miles or more from the facility to qualify for travel status.
