Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Work Days: Saturday, Sunday, and one weekday
- On-call: Not applicable
- Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs, including between like units or sister facilities
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; called off hours can be broken down but total no more than 1 shift
Facility Highlights
- Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet designated hospital
- Main Operating Room with 21 OR suites covering all surgical specialties including Trauma, Transplant, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, ENT, GU-GYN, and Robotics
- Nursing team: 75% Registered Nurses trained to both scrub and circulate surgical procedures
- Charting system: EPIC
- Local radius for travel: 60 miles
- Locals accepted on a case-by-case basis
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Radiation Badge
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
- Copy of Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Completed and accurate I-9 form with E-Verify attestation
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including multiple specific searches (SSN trace, state, national, sex offender registry, etc.)
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
- South Carolina Medicaid Excluded Providers search (for sub vendors)
- Primary source verification of active, unencumbered SC RN license
- NURSYS verification required for RN license
- Proof of 2 clinical references (hospital evaluations accepted)
- Complete employment application/resume including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
- Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or all if fewer than 3)
Required Health & Safety Documents
- Initial physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Tdap vaccination within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest X-ray if prior positive
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption (flu season August 1 – March 31; documentation deadline December 5)
- COVID vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
Certifications & Competencies
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
- Color blindness testing required prior to start
- Competency exam for OR nursing required
- Radiation badge required for OR nurses; candidates cannot start without it (may take 5-7 days to process)
Orientation & Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
- Passport-style badge photo required before start (frontal view, solid light background, business casual attire)
- Upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into facility platform
- During hurricane season (June-November), employees and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams
Additional Notes
- Open to block scheduling with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Parking permit required with a $20 registration fee for garage use; additional fees may apply for other parking locations
