Description
NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: San Diego, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Hours per week: 36 hours
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs, including PICU & CVICU and NICU satellite campuses
- Weekend Availability: Must be available to work weekends with full scheduling flexibility
- Transportation: Must have own transportation; mileage reimbursed for travel to satellite campuses
- Scrub Color: Any color accepted
- Charting System: Epic
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Minimum 2 years of recent Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Cardiac experience
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid photo ID (front and back) presented on first day
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, national criminal database, education verification, and others within 30 days of start
- Education verification with transcripts/diploma or third-party verification
- Professional license verification within 30 days of start
- NPI number provided if available
- Badge photo meeting facility specifications (neck up, plain background, recent, JPEG format)
- Signed facility-specific forms including HIPAA & PHI, confidentiality, code of conduct, professional accountability, and others prior to start
- Proof of auto insurance if applicable
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, PA, or APRN, confirming good health without restrictions
- Fit test for approved N95 masks within 1 year of start
- Immunizations/vaccinations or positive titers required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B series or titer (declination allowed with documentation)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (declinations not accepted)
- Negative drug test (non-THC 9 panel) within 30 days of start
- Negative TB test (Qgold/Tspot within 6 months or two negative PPDs) or documentation of past positive with chest x-ray and annual questionnaire
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication calculation exam (100% pass required) prior to start
- Pediatric pharmacology competency exam (100% pass required for NICU)
- Competency exams with minimum 80% score, updated annually
- Pass/fail medication test with two attempts allowed (100% passing score)
- Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing required for all RNs (except case managers)
References & Employment History
- Two supervisory references verified within 1 year of start from clinical leadership (director, supervisor, or manager)
- Employment application covering full 7 years with explanations for gaps over 6 months

- Locals are not accepted for this travel position
- No block scheduling accommodations
- Maximum 6 days return to office (RTO) allowed
- Hours guaranteed after call-off policy is met
- Facility is a Level 1 trauma, Magnet recognized, Beacon Award recipient, and a top-ranked children’s hospital
This position is ideal for experienced NICU RNs with strong Level 4 experience or strong surgical Level 3 NICU experience, who are flexible with floating and weekend shifts, and meet the comprehensive licensing, certification, and health requirements.
