Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Castro Valley, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide professional nursing care to surgical patients in the Operating Room (OR).
- Responsibilities include planning, managing, and coordinating nursing care; providing specialized treatment; supervising ancillary nursing personnel.
- Participate in surgical cases as scrub or circulating nurse.
- Maintain AORN standards of professional nursing practice.
- Work involves handling bodily fluids, emergency/crisis situations, and contact with patients under varied circumstances.
- OSHA Risk Category I (High Risk).
Work Schedule
- Shift: Day shift, 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
- On-call: As needed
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- At least 1 year of total travel nursing experience.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
- Specialty experience in Orthopedics, Vascular Surgery, Trauma, and Neurology.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC sanctions list, Medi-Cal Suspended and Ineligible Provider List checks as applicable.
- Education verification required; BSN preferred but not mandatory.
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana due to CA law).
- Full 7 years of work history with no gaps over 30 days; employment verification required.
- References: 2 professional references within last 3 years.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required).
- Immunizations and/or titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (annual renewal required)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B series or signed declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30) or signed declination
- Color blindness exam (in-person) if applicable.
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually.
Required Documentation and Training
- Must review and sign facility-specific documents including:
- Standards of Business Conduct
- Code of Conduct
- Vendor Training
- Confidentiality Agreement
- Abuse Policy
- Regulatory Orientation for Contracted Workers
- Conditional Offer of Employment Attestation
- Complete Epic Questionnaire (RN only) prior to start (required for candidates starting 11/3/2025 and onward).
- TB Screening Questionnaire signed by candidate and healthcare provider within 90 days of start, renewed annually.
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Unit-specific skills checklist, renewed annually.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required.
- ICU and Med/Surg/Telemetry RNs at certain locations may require EKG pass/fail testing onsite after start.
Additional Notes
- Candidates with religious or medical exemptions for immunizations or facial hair must complete specific exemption forms and obtain approval.
- Candidates must be able to work in unpredictable and high-risk environments.
- Ability to discriminate fine sounds and work with bodily fluids is essential.
