Description

Registered Nurse - Operating Room (OR)

Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Day (6:30 AM - 5:00 PM), with on-call 5:00 PM - 11:00 PM once a week
Hours: 10 hours per day, 40 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Accountable for the care of a group of patients in the Operating Room setting.
  • Focus on safe, effective, patient- and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.
  • Responsible for supervising licensed and non-licensed staff.
  • Applies the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Emphasizes patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction.
  • Provides mentoring and precepting to staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform patient assessments and reassessments according to policy or patient condition.
  • Independently make sound clinical decisions.
  • Initiate, prioritize, implement, and revise plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Monitor and document patient responses to clinical interventions.
  • Facilitate and evaluate patient and family education during stay and at discharge.
  • Delegate tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel.
  • Function as a mentor/preceptor and promote teamwork.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in quality, safety, and service improvement initiatives and implement practice changes.
  • Comply with regulatory standards and participate in Practice Governance.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Acute care nursing experience
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Experience with spine and vascular cases

  • This position requires working a day shift with occasional evening on-call duties once per week.
