Registered Nurse - Operating Room (RN-OR)
Location: Bakersfield, California
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Independently provides nursing care to acutely ill patients in the Operating Room under nurse leader supervision.
- Performs nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe, therapeutic care.
- Creates a compassionate environment supporting patient and family through authentic presence and trust-building.
- Collects and documents patient data; interprets assessment data to identify physiological and psychosocial risks.
- Collaborates with patients, families, and healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Prioritizes nursing actions using education, experience, and assessment data interpretation.
- Establishes nursing diagnoses and revises care plans as needed.
- Manages rapidly changing patient conditions and activates emergency protocols when necessary.
- Coordinates care activities with nurses, physicians, and Advanced Practice Providers.
- Adheres to evidence-based practices, therapeutic standards, infection control policies, medication administration, and controlled substance regulations.
- Participates in staff meetings, professional governance, and nursing practice development.
- Completes required competencies, mandatory classes, and educational coursework.
- Maintains knowledge and competence reflecting current nursing practice.
- Complies with RN scope of practice, ANA Code of Ethics, and Scope and Standards of Practice.
- Demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in caring for the patient population served.
Schedule
- Day shift
- 4x10 schedule starting at 6:45 AM or 5x8 schedule starting at 6:45 AM (weekday coverage if 5x8)
- Some call required on nights and weekends
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
