Description
NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 8 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Weekend Schedule: Rotating weekends
Floating: Some floating to Post Partum for baby care
Job Description
- Level 2 NICU unit focused on babies 33 weeks gestation and above, aligned more with Women's Health services than critical care.
- Must be able to perform baby catching in the OR during C-section cases.
- Charting experience with EPIC is required.
- Candidates must live more than 75 miles from the facility (no locals).
- First-time travel nurses are accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York
- NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care (1 year of experience)
- NICU - Neonatal Intensive Care experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Ability to baby catch in OR for C-section cases
- Experience with Epic
Health and Compliance Requirements
Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (updated annually)
- Fit mask test within 1 year (Halyard duckbill 1870+1860 Regular or 1860 Small)
- Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD) within 1 year or TB questionnaire if applicable
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Background and Verification Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required.
- 7-year criminal background check including felony checks, SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, and education verification from primary source.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and updated monthly.
- Foreign equivalency education evaluation if education was obtained internationally.
- Transcript/diploma or education verification required if no prior verification on file.
- Employment application and work history verification (at least 2 past employments verified).
- References required for travel agency submission (2 references within 3 years).
- State-specific checks including sex offender registry and Medicaid exclusion list within 30 days of start and monthly thereafter.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge: clear, passport-style with solid background.
- Completion of facility-specific pre-employment compliance attestations and new hire forms.
- Parking pass form required for orientation.
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted.
- Floating to Post Partum for baby care duties is expected.
- Must be able to baby catch in OR for C-section deliveries.
This position is ideal for NICU RNs with Level 2 experience who are comfortable working night shifts in a specialized neonatal unit and have the required certifications and licensure for New York State.
